Humans for Humanity

These people made me cheer for humanity last week and I just need to say so:

Honey from HONY

Brandon Stanton’s Humans of New York photoblog series of a disadvantaged Brooklyn-based school encouraged readers the whole world over to pour in more than $1 million in support of field trips to Harvard and a scholarship fund for its young scholars. The Gothamist has posted a great summary of how it became such an amazing campaign. I follow the HONY Facebook page and can attest to the generous spirit of its followers; one of the nicest communities on Facebook. An atheist blessing on them all!

Clergy faces down racism

The discovery that the North Miami Police Department uses mug shots of black men for sniper target practice horrified and disgusted many. As if the post-Ferguson spotlight on the criminal trends in U.S. policing hadn’t already revealed so much! The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America decided to launch a campaign via Facebook and Twitter in which religious leaders submitted their photos to urge them to #UseMeInstead.

Channel RT in Berlin, Germany covered it; video is below. An atheist blessing on the godly people who stepped up!
